NATIONAL ACTIVITIES
Honorary Membership Awards
The AISF conference is one of the few industry events that brings together people from all over Australia (and New Zealand). At the conference dinner three very special presentations were made: Keith Mallitt, Tim Elley and Chris Burgess were all presented with honorary membership of the AISF, the highest honour the Institute can bestow on a member.
Keith Mallitt has been involved on the Queensland branch since joining the Institute in 1993. He has been on the branch committee since then and was also elected to the National Council at that time. A check of our records reveals that Keith has been on the branch committee and Federal Council virtually ever since then. He was heavily involved with the 1997 Gold Coast conference and was the driving force behind the 2008 conference as well. He was National President in 1996-97, Secretary in 2006-07 and has also been involved with branch activities over that period.
Tim Elley joined the NSW branch of the Institute in mid 80’s, and was also involved with the Master Electroplaters Association of NSW. Working as a supplier to the industry, Tim has tended to shy away from holding office bearer positions on the National Council, however despite this makes a huge contribution to the running of the Institute on a federal level. He has however been Vice President of the NSW branch for many, many years, and also involved with branch activities, especially the organisation of the very successful branch golf day.
Chris Burgess joined the AISF in the early 1990’s and became a federal Councillor in 1998. He quickly became entrenched into the Council, becoming National President in 2001, and has held that role for four years: 2001-02, 2002-03, 2005-06 and has just completed a fourth term 2007-08. The Institute has possibly undergone the greatest transition in that period. Chris has been deeply involved in instigating a more professional approach by Council with budgetary & planning meetings, a handbook for Councillor’s responsibilities, and also the purchase of the new office in Collingwood. However, if you ask Chris about his role with the Institute, he will quite proudly announce that he is most proud of taking over the Charter of Directorial Responsibility of annoying the sh*t out of Heather, the Executive Officer!
With all of the AISF federal Councillors in attendance at the dinner, National President Peter Harrison made one additional presentation to AISF Executive Officer Heather Hoggan.
Heather was presented with a beautiful watch in appreciation for her work at the Institute. Some of you may not be aware of it, but Heather has worked at the Institute since 1991, when she commenced as bookkeeper in a part time role 2 days a week. The institute has changed considerably in that time and Heather’s role has grown and developed in tandem.
