2008 GOLF DAY REPORT

The annual NSW AISF Golf Day was held on the 14th March, with 56 players taking part in this years’ event. After more than twenty years of holding the day at the Liverpool Golf Club the event was changed to Georges River this year to the general approval of all concerned. The course was in excellent condition and although once again we seemed to choose the hottest day of the year to play, competitive scores were the order of the day.

The day’s event was played as an Ambrose, and with a shot-gun start and most teams finishing at the same time, it soon became evident that the team from Artarmon Electroplating had shot a hot round. Robert McLeod’s team of Phil King, Mike Roberts and former Wallabies defensive coach John Muggleton finished with a nett 53 3/8 winning the perpetual PALS Trophy and bragging rights for the next twelve months. Great round guys, and well done!

Once again the team of Cameron O’Brien, Paul Fradd, Murray Player and Mark Craven were very competitive and won the scratch event with a seven-under 63. Nearest the pin winners were Casey on the 3rd, Ross Woodley 5th, John Cantrill 9th and 14th (obviously hot on the day), Greg Dunn 12th, and Glen Cantrill 16th, with Greg Dunn also winning the longest drive.

The most excited team was the winners of the Bradman, the team from Swift consisting of Ron Thomas, Don Chapple, Brad Rose and Glenn Goodacre. Glenn has now been part of the “winners” of this prize at his last four attempts and assures us he will be back next year to defend his title!

As usual we had great sponsorship with Coating Supplies, Astor Electroplaters, SEC Plating, Finished Products, Artarmon Electroplaters, Swift Electroplaters, MacDermid Australia, Enthone, Atotech, Associated Silver Refiners and Mechanical Plating all providing prizes. And once again our gratitude goes to Bob Lynch of Silvergleam Electroplaters for donating the nett and scratch trophies.

The day ended with a hearty meal at the golf club and a few drinks over some hard luck stories of narrowly missed putts and unlucky bounces. My thanks to all the players and sponsors whose assistance made the day a huge success.

Vice-President
